Thread: Different Sponsons

Just wondering what the difference was between the 04 sponsons versus the rest of the years. I think the 06 and up were when the new design came out. I have an 04 rxp and thought that the the machine was always a little loose unless the trim was down then it would grip. I rode my buddies 08 and it seemed like it cut harder and stayed hooked in the corners better. The thing i didnt like about it was that it seemed like it stayed turning and had a weird bite to them. Has anyone else noticed that... is it caused by sponson design change? Also could you change the 04 sponsons out with new ones? I dont want to do aftermarket but I liked the 06 design better. Thanks

The 05-06 sponsons have the same part number, and the 07-08 have the same part number but it differs from the 05-06... I didn't know that anything was changed The 04's are the same as the 05's other than their apperance on the outside... covered mounting bolts.

yea my 04 has the covered mounting bolts... i like the look of the new ones where u can see the bolts because that covering piece does not line up perfectly.

The actual profile of the the sponson on the underside has not changed between years. Its just the topside to get rid of the cover also the later years use much larger/stronger mounting bolts.
Was your buddys ski a X by any chance?? If so they handle quite different from stock to the RXP. The stock grate on the X boats is very aggressive and gives very good hookup but I dont personal like it in the turns. R88
