Rode an SLX 780 all weekend...
I was surprised to hear how damn throaty the exhaust on those sound... it was a fresh water lake ski, so it looked brand new inside.
Had Ocean Pro vortex flame arrestors, dreamo read up to about 56 mph, but it would just barely pull on my buddy's 720 XP, still fun tho, and at least had something to ride all weekend at the lake.. cool neighbors for sure.
Rode their SLT750 for a few minutes too, acts like a good towing ski.

An SLX780 should be right at 56mph stock. All the goodies on it came stock.

hah... didn't know that...
I think this one was a '95..
I guess that either means it was in mediocre running shape (missing some top speed) or my buddy's ski is quicker than I think
It sure felt like it was cavatating alot (couldn't get a holeshot to save my life), so the prop may have been losing some top speed.

My 95 SLX780 will do 55.6 MPH (GPS) on glass. Agreed, it is a very throaty exhaust compared to a Yami (or others). I like the Polaris fuel filler cap on the nose of the craft so I can stand on the dock and fuel it when it is on the lift.

My '95 SLX has the same hole shot issue. I just changed the intake grate from the stock 4 bar to an R&D Short wing without any positive change.

The 95 780's had the 4 blade impeller found in the SL750. In 96 Polaris went with the 3 blade swirl type made by Skat. It had better low end. The 780 stock for some reason never had the acceleration of the SL750. The torque was higher in the pwerband on the 780. The 780 also had a flat spot transition from low to mid rpm. After that it pulled pretty hard. This wasn's so bad on the 2 seaters but the 3 seaters that used the 780 where terrible for towing because this flat spot was right in the towing range.

I got to break down and buy a gps. My 750 hits 56 to 58 on the Dream-O-meter and my SLX hits 64.9 both are running the good skat-trak 6 vein stators. My 750 will take the SLX out of the hole but not for long. The SLX should take the 720 just not off the line.

Exactly. The 750 is better on the bottom end but the SLX walks away later on.
My 92 piped SLX780 with some goodies rips down low, mid and high. Man I really have to go ride it soon and wipe the dust off of it. I haven't ridden it in at least 2 years.
