Asian Carp DNA found in Chicago River Near Wilmette

Just read an article that stated a water sample taken from a pumping station contained Asian Carp DNA. This is not good news for all the effort that has been put forward to keeping these devastating fish out of the Great Lakes

We've got 'em down here... I guess it could be the next "official" welcome to Mudbugs: I was pulling away from the competition in a grudge match hydrodrag when this big ass fish jumped up and knocked me off the ski...

L.D.W.F. AND CHEF PHILIPPE PAROLA TO UNVEIL SILVERFIN PROMOTION JAN. 12

    Release Date: 01/07/2010

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) with Chef Philippe Parola will hold a presentation on the potential commercial and recreational market for Asian carp. In an effort to produce a demand for two species of Asian carp, the silver and bighead carp, LDWF and Chef Parola are launching the "Silverfin Promotion," which includes rebranding Asian carp as "Silverfin."

Chef Cullen Lord of Flemmings Restaurant, Darryl Rivere of A la Carte Food and Chef Parola will be preparing Silverfin recipes for everyone attending.

    WHEN: Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010 at 11 a.m.

WHERE: Louisiana Room of the LDWF headquarters building located at 2000 Quail Dr. in Baton Rouge.

Included in LDWF's management plan for Asian carp is creating a demand for the white, delicious meat they possess and relaxing the regulations on fishing for these nuisance fish.

Both species of carp are exotic to U.S. waters and causing major problems in the areas where they live. LDWF has confirmed that Asian carp are established throughout the Mississippi River Basin and in the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers. Eradication is not possible, but it is possible to create a sufficient demand for the fish, both recreationally and commercially, to control their numbers.

So, you see how we handle it in SOLA - rename the nuisance species and create a recipe for the table. I guess the coonasses will have it wiped out in about 18 months.

Yes. Snakeheads eat all other fish. Asian Carp eat everything that little feeder fish eat then jump out of the water and try to take out jet skiers.
