Aluminium Billet Nose Boots - Which One???
I'm looking at various impeller nose boots for my RXP-X.
Is there any preference out there in the way of performance between the Skat-Trak at $68.00, the R&D at $30 or Speed Freaks at $30?
They speak of speed increases of .2 to .5 mph.
Can anybody comment on how true this claim is or if there any real difference at all?

I dont run a nose cone on any of my SD's any more. Tried one on my RXTX and it walked up the drive shaft. Luckly I caught it before it took out the carbon ring..... Some people even say you pickup mph without one.

You dont need 1 in fresh water if you run in salt then I would stick with the stocker, it works good to keep watrer out the splines and all the aftermarket 1s I have used walk off the prop and up the shaft. R88

i have the speedfreeks, had the set-back mod and repitch at the same time so as far as increase of speed im not sure. but i do know ive put 10+hrs on it and it hasnt walked up the shaft ever unlike the solas which did in about 1 hr.

Billet Nose Boots
I noticed that the Skat has a boss area along two sides to grab into to tighten them on the prop.
How do you tighten down the R&D or Speed Freaks boots? Without chewing them up.

You have to be sure the gasket is in there and in good shape. Without the gasket it will never stay on.
You guys do crack me up, as you cant keep you nose cones on.
I am sure I will get flak from that comment but I have never lost one.
As far as on topic, I have never seen a skat or speedfreeks in person but have several of the R&D and is what i ran.
Not sure how much speed there is to be had, but install you prop without cone and look back up in your intake. I dont fine tune my hull to loose tenths on my prop.
I am going to run Speed freeks this year.

Have a speedfreaks one sitting here but my mechanic refused to put it on ,saying it lacks a oring and that it would allow water to get inside.I sure like how it looks though

Do they all come with an o ring? I bought a Solas off a member and don't remember it having an o ring

yes, our nose cones have no o-ring at all and we have been running them in salt water for 2 years with no problems at all. also how many people here have run NO nose cone at all (including my self) for years with no problems.
even with the use of a stock rubber nose cone or a nose cone with o-rings i have witnessed water in the splines of the prop and have seen the water push out all of the grease from the splines. i like it dry lol....
