What to do with new ski? Strain or not to strain?

We just bought our first NEW jetski. Its a 2009 GTX 155 left over. So what should I do to her to keep her running for years to come? I've heard of guys putting the Goco Strainer on IC units but would it make sense to put it on a non IC/SC unit? What else should we put on her? Bilge pump?

    Thank you everyone

Groco strainer is not required as it's NA and also using the closed loop cooling system.

Even in Non IC setups a strainer is not a necessary but is not a bad idea to run..This is JMO though as i would run a strainer reguardless...

you dont need a bilge pump if you never ever plan on ever ever leave a plug out, blow a hose off, flip it over or have any water in the hull...... or its just a goood idea to put one in

yeah I put a bilge on my 2000 GTX last year after reading the how to on here and almost learning the hard way.

Has anyone mounted one on the 2009 GTX and do you have pictures?

Is it better to drill a whole somewhere up high (this is what I did on my 2000) or to loop the drain hose off the bilge up high and have it exit out one of knock out holes by the jet/nozzle?

    Thanks everyone.

Youll want to mount the exit hole well enough above the water line..

Yep, here's the pics and everything else you need to know about adding a strainer, shut off valve, bilge pump, etc..... to a GTX and RXT-X

see post #22 for the latest version of this document.

I personally think a strainer is good for ALL pwc, keeps all the lake scum and junk out of the IC (if installed), exhaust manifold and exhaust system.

Keep the exit hole up high and IN VIEW so that you can see if it's working!!

Adding a strainer also allows you to mount a shutoff valve convienently for a Emergency Tow situation.

There are many great threads in the How To & FAQ section!
