    splitting the cases 1997 sltx

having a little trouble getting the starter housing off. flywheel, stator, starter, starter drive, everything is off and i removed the 4 bolts that are the only ones i can see holding it on. i am afraid to hit it too hard without checking in case i am missing something holding it on.

i think i remember 4 bolts holding the bracket on then 6 bolts holding the case togethor then the 12 cly base nuts will have to go

that and 13 year old sealent should be the only thing holding it togethor

on the pto side there is a ledge where you can stick a screw in and pry em apart

You're trying to get the mag/starter housing off? Once the stator is removed, there are 4 bolts that hold the housing to the cases. If those are out, it should pop off with a little help.

Remember that it should be sealed with liquid gasket so it may be "glued" a bit. I can usually give it a whack with a rubber mallet or use some light prybar pressure to get them to come off.

well if your sure all the bolts are out. take a small screwdriver and slip it in where the boss is for hitting it. its like a flange that sticks off the case. if it moves a little. you got it. just do all around it lightly,. then go to a bigger screwdriver to get it off. The little one will get it started.
