I have heard of doing it to stock ones but not sure about R&D ones. I think they sell a 3 deg?

Anyways from what i understand you can shim the stock ones with a little over 1/8" (0.1312") of material behind the tab to get 3 degrees. Personally i haven't tried it yet, but i plan to for next season...hope this helps.

Actually you want to remove three degrees of material from front to back. This reduces the amount of force the tabs place on the hull and brings it's pre-tab speed back.

Thanks for clearing that up Robert. For some reason I had imagined adding three degrees.... have you seen increased speeds with this or handling changes?

    Thanks,

No probelm Dean. GK actually had this idea first, and since their test, R&D started making the 3 degree tabs. That's how they came to be. You can check out the archives on GK's web site.

I have the original R&D tabs Dean. They forced the hull down too much, and really loaded the engine at wot. The only thing they really improve is the ability for the hull to stay in the water when hole-shotting. I have learned to throw my weight over the bars at precisely the right time to do the same thing though. A Worx grate will keep the hull hooked just as well as with the grate and tabs in the chop.

X-4's really fly when you trim them all the way up, and use a pump wedge. Tabs and a grate defeat this whole purpose. So that's why I went away from them. But below 65 mph, and in the surf, the grate rules.

I have the whole tab and pump plate set on my X4, so it is better to put the original tabs back on?

I would at least remove the pump plate, I always felt it pushed the boat down too much. I have the 3 degree tabs and run the boat with no grate. I love the way it handles.

And this is a big boy too. The boat couldn't think about porpoising with him on it...
