    Garmin Oregon 400c, anyone?

Anyone have one and how do you like it? How is the touch screen operation while on the water? West Marine has them on sale for $299 now. I have a 76CSx now, but am considering the 400c for the larger screen and good price.

I have a 400 i which has the inland water ways in it. It is not really much problem to use on the water. You just need to figure out where and how to mount it on the ski. Works real good as far as I am concerned. i had a 76 s before and it died. You have to play with the display setting to get it to read in the bright sun but is totally usable. For 299 a good choice.

They are really nice. The screen is only slightly larger than the 76, but the higher res makes a BIG difference. It uses the G2 maps which are nicer than the standard bluechart & it's preloaded with charts for the whole country, so you don't have to pay for extra maps if you travel to another region. It has a nice feature that allows you to easily switch between a chart view or satmap view(like google earth) of the land areas...makes it easy to pick out landmarks onshore from a distance. I played with both the Oregon & Colorado at Westmarine & kind of preferred the wheel on the Colorado over the touchscreen Oregon. I just wasn't sure how well the touchscreen would work while wet or with gloves on. BTW, if you get it lmk & I'll hook you up with the road maps if you don't already have them & a keygen for the unlock codes.

I always tether all my stuff. Nothing has ever fallen off but the first time I don't tether will be the first time something does fall off.
