    Building pipes??

Just wondering if anyone has attempted to build there own triples or just a single pipe. I know the triple sets are running low and getting harder to find. I bet there are some tig welders among us with mad skills.

I'm pretty sure that tripple pipes are stamped first then welded together

The problem with building your own watercraft pipes is that they are waterjacketed in an effort to keep underhood temps cool and safe. So in reality, you're building 6 pipes, and of course connecting them and setting up your water-routing. (passages) That's why they're soooooo expensive. Heck, you can buy a set of tripples for your snowmobile for $600 NEW...

Now if you wanted to build a single wall pipe, that wouldn't be too tricky, but, comes with it's own set of issues.

Two stroke pipes are actually very complex as the shape of them. i.e the cones at each end and the diameters are what determine where the power is and how wide it is. You need some very tricky formula to work it all out.

A clever trick that you can us is to mark out the finished shape of what you want on a flat sheet and then turn the edge up all the way round a 1/4" in.

You then weld a pair of them together so as to have a sealed envelope.

Then weld a fitting into it and pump it full of water to blow it into shape.

With some practice you can get very good at it and I have even done it with Stainless Steel.

This is a exhaust piece I formed for a customer using this process from 1.2mm stainless steel so you could imagine aluminium would be a lot easier and the shape not as complex.

Man I can have one stamped out and welded and on the ski in 15 minutes. LOL Then I woke up!! It would be fun to try to build one if I had the time and money but im sure it would make less power than the factory pipe. What all skis do the tripples fit?? I never really done any research on them.
