    01 yamaha 1200 xlt--any ideas

This is probably a better area for this question. I found a 2001 Yamaha 1200 XLT for $700 without a trailer. The seller informed me that the ski had been sitting for two years and only needed a new battery to start, but when I brought one it didn't. He seemed surprised which makes me think that its something minor why it won't start. Check out the pictures and let me know how much you think I would have to put into it and if you think I'm getting a good deal??

    What is that crud? Rust???

Can you turn the crankshaft by hand?

I would heavily discount a boat that can't be test driven. Even more for one that won't start or that you can't run a compression test on.

It's not rust, it's just an algae buildup from being outside. I know it won't start but I didn't even try hard because of the old fuel still in it. Do you think $700 is worth the risk of something major being wrong.

It wouldnt be hard to get your money out of it.... good cyl is 250 each....
could just be the relay or start/button or kill switch... if the body looks good... the seats would be worth 150 if they are in good shape....
I would take a flyer on it....

That's what I was thinking. If I can't get it to start I'll just part it out. I'm going tomarrow to look at it again and I'll check to see if the crankshaft spins freely. I justed wanted to make sure it was worth the trouble.

Thanks for everyones help, but I'm going to pass on this one. The ski just needs too much to repair. I went back to look at it I realized a few more problems. The hull had some major chips out of the bottom and most of the clear coat was off. Also the seats were pretty faded which wouldn't help for just parting the ski out. I really wanted this ski just because I like the look of this model.
