Newbie - carb question 650 SL

Hi. I've been lurking and reading a bunch since last summer. This is a great forum. I have a set of carbs from a '95 650 SL. They took on a little water, and the screw( that holds the pin(4 and arm(49) sheared off flush. Any machinist types out there with some advice to save this carb, or am I boned?

    Welcome to the Hulk Gearhead.

I have a set of nice 780 carbs for $50 if interested.

They're set up for the triple outlet fuel pump already, but you will need to get a 780 intake manifold and throttle cable to make them work on your 650.

OR, I have a set of old 650 carbs too. I can give you what ever you need off them.

    How about a pic?

Sorry, no pic's now. Seems pointless, I just spent 20 minuted with a pin vice and a 5/64 left hand drill to no avail. Now I need a bottoming tap, or a new center carb. Are 780 carbs a larger bore? I'd be interested in either a 650 center carb or a set of 780's.

Xlint, how is the intake different? I thought all Fuji motors interchanged on intake and exhaust. If I swapped to 780 jugs pistons and heads what else would I need?

You should be able to drill and tap that, the screw doesn't carry any load.. I would get a 10-32 tap (or something just larger than what was there). The taps are cheap, your local hardware store should have one for $5 or so. If you can't find a bottoming tap, start it with the regular tap and then grind the tip off to finish it. Good luck

The 780 intake manifold has the throttle cable mount on the PTO carb instead of the MAG. That's why you also need the 780 throttle cable because it's longer.

The 780 carbs are exactly the same size as the 650/750 carbs.

If you want to make your 650 into a 780, you need the cyls, heads, pistons, and exhaust manifold. You'll also need to adjust the carb jetting and get an impeller for the added power increase.

Your 650 timing would work fine, but to take full advantage of the power potential, you'd want a 780 CDI. But to do that, you'll also need a 750 or 780 stator and flywheel.

If you're interested in a 780 kit, I have one for sale.

780 cyls, heads, and .25mm OEM pistons. Also comes with the exh manifold and mounting bolts, as well as gaskets for installing it.

If you want the 780 carbs, I got those.

If you want to keep your present carbs, I'll send you a CEN carb body. But it'll have the choke plate removed. I install primers onto all of my carbs.
