    Stumped?

Went out on the water today for the drag races in Tampa. On hole shot, Ski would cavitate very badly. It felt like I had an 800 grate on but I did not. I let Leo ride it and he thought the same. On top end I was about 400 rpms down. Also I would keep an eye on the RPM's when I was pinning it. I would reach max of 6700 then watch them start dropping by tens. As soon as that would happen I would shut it down. Thought maybe I was experiencing a mild sieze or the pump tunnel had a small crack. So I took it home and didn't find much! I really haven't changed anything and the ski has ran great to date. Not sure what is going on.. Any ideas??

Compression checked good on all 3 150,150,145
pump tunnel looked great, no cracks
    Pump shoe in good condition
    Plugs were lean

BTW I am running the package minus porting.

Hello Brian, Bad cavitation and lost of rpm's check to see your pump shoe bolts are not loose that will cause that. Wasted a day to go see a game like that should of gone jet skiing, Give me a call talk to you later. Jim

I had the same thing happen to my ski. Compression was good on all three. I dropped about 400 RPM's and could not get above 6690. Everyone told me that it was the power valves. I took the covers off and found that one of the screws fell out. Luckily the power valve did not drop down into the cylinder.

    Brian,
When I lost 400 rpms I had an exhaust leak.

Ran fine just would not rev up.

He has an 06-,due to the cavitation issue, I would think the problem is the pump shoe, let us know what you find, Bill.

I thought it would have been the pump shoe as well. The screws were nice and tight and the pump shoe what set up in there perfectly. Also checked all the clamps on exhaust and all were tight. Dunno? Jim I will give you a ring...

Hey Brian, what have you done to the ski since the pump tunnel redue? What size prop? Could it be under sized? And rpms droping like that sounds lean be very careful.

Oddly enough I haven't done a thing to it since the tunnel rework. Although, I can tell you that I did not seal my pump shoe. I did use the ppk though. I have had this ski out 7-8 times since the tunnel rebuild with no issues. The prop is 14/21. The ski did seem to be runnig lean even when I adjusted the EFI to high numbers. I wonder if the EFI is going out?

Heres a pic. Looks very lean to me and the camera caught what appears to be water.

    Brian ,

check the sides of the heads for a leak and look down both sides of the hull for black sooty oil where there is a leak.
