BUDS fault, coils 123 open or shorted.

Hi can any1 tell me if they have had a problem with there RXPX going into limp and when tested on buds showing coils 123 open or shorted.

Pulled the coils out and 2 of them have cracks in the plastic insulation that goes round them, would this cause any issues??? Anything that can be dont to fix it besides replacing the whole coil.

This boat was being raced and kept going into limp, I intially thought it was down to a oil press sensor as that is commen on them but when tested on BUDS it was showing the coil issue and no others.

    Thanks in advance R88

IMO try new coils first and check oil pressure to be safe.

Yeh Im thinking that I will try it next time with the coils out of 1 of my boats see if we can get it to happen again.

I dont think there was any issue with the oil pressure levels were bang on I checked it before each moto.

Gona take the switch out and giv it a clean and new oil+filter will be goin in before next round.

Any one else seen this before??? R88

My coils did the same thing. Remove the plastic then remove the steel sleeve and toss it re rap the coil with heat shrink or a good quality tape.

Nice 1 thanks BeerDart. Ill give that a go. It sucked a fat 1 coz he was out in 1st when it went and the guy in 2nd just rode past then of course he had pick of the gate. Fortunatly it did not cost us the championship, I doubt we will have that luxury again. R88
