The 99SPX is basically the upgraded 96XP. I think that the motor is also a bit more forward than the 96XP but not by much. other than that its all the same.

    Same hull, same engine location.

The differences are accelerator pump carbs, an oil/water drain/fill plug in the rear c/b shaft cavity, different MPEM (which isn't any better), and downgraded gauges.

So for improved parts, the drain/fill plug is really the only improvement.

I do like the black bottomed hull though.

The '99 gets the nod on looks. Beautiful boat.

Supposedly those things were improved on the '97+.

You can not judge it by part number because SD supersedes part numbers based as much on price structure as design/materials alterations.

As these things go, the '99 should be the best of them all and it may be true. But there are a lot of '96s out there still so they are not falling apart on a daily basis.

That said, I have seen guys with '97+ 787s lose CB bearings.

In the end, go with the boat you like best and deal with what comes. That is all you can do anyway since it is going to come down to how the boat was maintained regardless of the year it was produced.

I actually don't care to read or consider what Bill Oneil states as fact, because he has proven himself to be a crook in business transactions with me.

C/B shaft, same. Flywheel, same. RAVE valves? Redesigned in 97 because the GSX hull was prone to gum them up quickly. This symptom didn't occur on X4 hulls. Water regulator? Redesigned to accomodate the 951. The weak link to the original 96's only appeared when a pipe was added and the increase in exhaust pressure caused them to fail. So on a stock ski, they remained intact.

I am glad you showed up over here with your 20 post count to try to start something. Please continue.

Isn't the rave valves on the 99spx acuated by a solenoid instead of air pressure? So what did Bill O Neil screw you on Robert? I have bought a few things from him and i have never had a problem. The guy does know his chit but he is a grumpy old man on the phone lol..
