    80 mph FZR/SHO 'recipes'

There are some very fast skis out there now, and quite a few setups have been tested. We have put threads together on how to achieve 80 mph on RXPs, GPRs, etc in the past, and it would be interesting to do the same for the SHO engine skis.

So far it seems like the least expensive route to 80 mph is something like:
Good rideplate - VX or R&D or Riva later
    Grate - R&D or
    Air intake
SC wheel (many choices here, how much boost is needed?)
    Intercooler
    ECU or reflash
    Impeller

I am curious what is the cheapest, simplest way to 80+ mph? My guess is that R&D R2/Powershot, plus a low boost wheel ... is the C3 close to the same as the Riva B1? Is an upgraded SC shaft and BOV both necessary?

Is an upgraded intercooler required, or do the cooling mod updates help enough with a low boost wheel?

When do you really need to upgrade to 160 mm liner and impeller?

Exhaust mods? Is there an aftermarket waterbox yet, or has anyone had good results modding the stock box?

Are there any setups that run 80 and don't really need a Powershot, that just the R1/R2 provides safe fueling?

    TDR Waterbox.
160mm liner and pump vane mod is primarily to reduce launch cavitation.

That's correct....you'll actually scrub some top-speed with the 160mm set-up vs a 155 pump.....but the holeshot and cavitation elimination are well worth the small top speed loss.

The Speed and Mod Database is an excellent place to start looking for the 80 mph 'recipes' your seeking.........as you'll be able to see what the different hulls run speed-wise with the various mods in variant conditions.

So buy that Yammi already so we can add ya to the family! You know you wanna.....

Is an upgraded intercooler required, or do the cooling mod updates help enough with a low boost wheel? Once you see the stock intercooler apart......you will want to throw it in the trash. By the time you spend money upgrading the stock one......you could have bit the bullet and upgraded to an aftermarket.....

When do you really need to upgrade to 160 mm liner and impeller? See below....

Exhaust mods? Is there an aftermarket waterbox yet, or has anyone had good results modding the stock box? Coming soon....

Will let others chime in on this one....but R&D has been accurate with their recommended supporting mods for their reflashes. Even if the Powershot seems overkill...it's relatively cheap insurance to make sure your motor stays fueled....esp when upping the boost and retaining stock injectors that have to work very close to their max duty cycle on the modified motors.
Running one of these motors lean...in the pursuit of more power......can be a very costly mistake.....

Last summer I was seeing peak IAT's of 66C with the stock IC & stock SC wheel with the R&D IC cooling kit installed. I upgraded to the R&D IC core replacement when I went to the C1 & WOT IAT's are ~55C. These #'s are with the stock ECU, so I'm guessing they'd be even a little hotter with the extra rpm/boost from a R2.

Bottom line, you might get away with running a C1 without a better IC since you're in a cooler climate, but anything bigger & you'll be leaving a lot of performance on the table without upgrading.
