    Won't start. Code P-1656 Help!

I have a 04' gtx supercharged doo. I put it in the water and she gave me the check engine on my screen so i pressed set 5 times and got the code P-1656. After re-inserting the key about 15 times the ski starts normally. I then rode around and came back and shut the ski off and tried to turn her back on but gave the check engine with the same code, but this time wouldn't restart after a million attempts. I've checked the fuses, connections, everything i can think of. After pulling the ski out several hours later i tried starting it and after the 5th attempt of putting the key on and off she started. then wouldnt start back up. It seems i have kinda the same problem this person had in this post except he doesn't say how he fixed the problem > http://greenhulk.net/forums/showthre...ighlight=P1656 ...Any tips + help would be appreciated.

P1656---DESS line shorted to ground. Check ENG should be showing

    Possible cause:
Damaged safety switch, damaged circuit wires, damaged connector or damaged ECM output pins.

    Service action:
Remove DESS key and check for an open circuit on system circuit B-38.

The symptoms are a little different but I have replaced about 12 safety switches (dess post) in the last 2 months, i would replace the safety switch

i hate electrical problems ... dont take offense that ur question isn't answered, that's not a common occurance on the forum... it's just never easy to troubleshoot electrical problems over a computer. could be the key bc they had problems with keys for awhile now going bad and not working on certain model years... could be the DESS post on the ski...

is it still under warranty, or no?

i agree... that's probably where i'd start if u had no warranty bc it's easy to change and they commonly do go bad...

if it's under warranty i'd have them sit there screwin around with it

Ok thank you guys. I'm going to find the learning key and if that works i'll get a new key if it doesn't i'll get a new dess post. Do I have to order it from the dealer and have them reprogram my key? what is the procedure with that?
