    2000 Yamaha GP 1200r

Its a 2000 gp 1200r with the "D" plate & chip installed when I bought it. While riding it last summer the temp. light came on and off a few times along with the warning light and alarm. When it started this it was just after starting it and it couldnt be HOT. After a couple of times of doing this it shut off and would not start again. Now when I try to crank it the Temp. light comes on along with the warning light and alarm. Motor will turn for a while then it seems to shut down until the warning light and alarm clears or I reset it. Then it appears to reset itself and repeat. I have checked, and its not getting fire at the plugs. Also this is a factory rebuilt crate motor that was installed by a Yamaha dealer last spring and it ran great for the break-in period and for a short while after. Then this crap! Im new to the forum and to wave runners. I did use the search but did not find a solution for my problem. PLEASE HELP??

Check the temp sensor that is at the lowest point on the pipe right before the water box. Make sure the connections are clean at the ebox, if this sensor goes bad it will cause the troubles you have described.

Thanks to you both. How do I check it to see if its bad? Also if it is bad where would be the best place to get one?

unplug the connector from the end of the sensor, using an OHM meter, it if show ~infinity~, (open) or flashing 0.00, it may have an open internally indicating a fault. The estimated OHM resistance should be 1.8-2.2K ohm when checking it

Put up a WTB in the classifieds, somebody will chime in. If this is the part causing problems, forum member WFO may have that part.

    I would say so.
If you choose to replace the sensor, try contacting forum member WFO. a.k.a. WFO Performance in Houston, Texas

You can also get a resistor from radio shack, 2K or a 2.2K ohm resistor to bypass the sensor.
