Riva Gen II/Stock X Intercooler swelling options

Alright seems, that the Riva Gen II/Stock X intercoolers when installed on a non X ski or when the open the loop kits are installed the water is routed from the pump directly into the intercooler which has caused swelling, cracking, and othe problems.

I wanted to create this thread so we ca review and discuss the options that can be done to eliminate this from happening. I have been pondering this over the past few days talking to some people and it seems seems that the water going into the IC needs to be regulated to about 35 - 40 PSI.

If the T is on the incoming main water line that comes on the X skis is used then would this be sufficient enough? I was told that it is restricted down at the top of the T. Would te engine get enough water with this routing? Maybe the IC line can be restricted down to only allow only so much water through it.

in the GPRXPs (open loop) I have built I T-ed the main water line and ran a 3/8 hose to feed the IC and then the oil cooler. The 3/8 line restricts down the water my IC only gets about 23psi at WFO. I also run a 1/8 to 3/8 fitting with a 3/8 hose at the top of the IC to a small pisser to remove air pockets but it also bleads off PSI I dropped 3 psi of water pressure when I add this to my IC set up.
Now I dont run the Rive Gen II nor do I own a RXP/RXT so this might be usless info. I believe you will find it help full

The pump plays a big role in water pressure and flow. ie: nozzle size, Impeller size, intake grate, RPM's tunnel relief and rideplate angle. Every boat will be different.

Sounds like if the pressure can be regulated to the IC then that is the key. It will only need to be set once. I saw in some previous posts suckmywake stated his pump pressure on his RXP at 85+ MPH at 8500+ RPM was at 42 PSI. Maybe I will make up an in line pressure gauge to see what the pump pressure is and go from there. Maybe I am overthinking this like everything else.

A $2 pressure gauge is your friend. Tunnel pressure is a very important number not only for cooling.

I'm running Riva OL plate with HX and no problem.

    1.Engine Temp is Good
    2.Engine Oil is Good
3.Gen II IC is Good NO SWELLING
4.No Milky Oil in Catch Can
5.No Strong Smell of Fuel In Oil

Kc, David and I are running riva plate with HX and no problemo! Oh! The guys in Orlando is running the same system. Please don't overthink and RIDE..................

Ok, went and bought a T fitting and water pressure guage with needle that stays at the max pressure. I'll start by seeing what the IN pressure is to the IC.

Then if needed I will do one of three things to regulate the pressure to the IC:
    • T the incomming line and restrict the water going to the IC. Take the out from the IC and dump it overboard.
    • Install an additional bleed off in the in IC
    • Install a pressure releif/control valve on an additional pisser so if it reaches above 35 - 40 PSI it just dumps the extra pressure overboard.
What have others done? Lets see it!

I tapped the IC and installed a psi line there ran the line up to the dash so I could see while I was running then restricted in the inlet to the IC until I got the PSI I wanted for me it was just a 3/8 feed line and the air pressure relief mod did the trick for me but remember I have a GPRXP so what the hell am I doing give you advise
