Thread: Is it worth it?

  1. #1

    Question Is it worth it?

I found a 1997 Sea Doo GTX 3-seater. Approx. 90 hours on it
Body in good shape (alwarys covered or in garage). Motor is seized up.
Many good parts (including a good starter).

I thinks its a good price $500.00 But....

Needs a new motor. I need a guess on how much it would be to replace the motor?

Thanks for any input you can give me.

Trailer is in bad shape (will need to use a trailer to pull it up on).

If you can do the motor yourself it may cost you $800-$1000 for a motor...its a 787 right? otherwise your looking at $1500+ for a reman. you may be able to find a good used one that still runs.

We have only rebuilt a carb before. Just picked up a 95 waverunner III GP 700 that needs a starter and shaft bushing, for $250.00. Sounded easy to do not sure though, so we are starting with that first. But I just can across this this morning how hard is an engine rebuild to do?

As long as to put it together the same way you took it apart...its pretty simple. on a scale from 1-10 id say its about a 4 for the average guy. Whats the extent of your mechanical ability? you sound like you have some wrenching knowlege.

Ok but what about for the average Girl and 14 year old son? We rebuilt the carb 2 tears ago on my 2003 Polaris. Labeled everything, took notes and pictures as we took it apart just in case. And we did itand it works great!
Now he is older and wanted to do a project ski, so we found a 95 Yamaha IIIGP 700.
The hull seams to be in good condtion but from what we were told it needs a starter and shaft bearing. To be painted , seat recovered new bumpers etc. I thought for $250.00 if we messed it up not to big of a loss.

Then I came across thisSeadoo this morning. SooooNow he wants to try to rebuild the engineI don't mind just have to keep costs down or we will both hear it from the Boss!

Any help, advice, or tips are greatly appreciated! Thanks

I think that if you could do the last motor you can definitly do a 787.
you will need this for sure...
