Thread: 95gtx bad motor

    95gtx bad motor

Just picked up a 95 gtx with the 657x motor which is blown--something got in the motor and damaged rear piston and head. I'm looking for a used motor and was wondering are there any other seadoo motors I could use without doing any fabrication--just some parts swapping?

The 717 will fit in there...im not sure how ever if you have to change the MPEM. I think that the timing curve is close enough that it wont matter but some one will chime in if im wrong

Thanks for the reply. It seems like it's not going to be easy to find one at a fair price--I found a few but they want 600-800 dollars for them. At that price I could buy a rebuilt and have a new motor!

there are a lot of members here that have shops. you may want to ask around and see if someone has one or can build you one.

There is a 717 complete with carbs and stator on ebay now. Would that bolt in place of my 657? What controls the timing curve on these--is it the mpem?

yes the 717 is a drop in. it uses the same mounts as a 657. yes the mpem controls the timing curve.

How much more power is the 717 over the 657x? Just wondering if its worth a few bucks more to hold out for one if I had to.
    Thanks

Not a big deal then--but might make a difference when towing a tube or wakeboard.
