    Modified PWC and insurance

Has anybody had problems with insurance because their PWC has been highly modified?

I do not think it would be a problem beacuse was able to get extra insurance on my atv I told them I have a lot of aftermarket items on my quad. He ask what I had in it and I told him so they gave me 2,000 extra still is not enough to rebuild my quad if it was stolen but better than nothing. So I do not see why you could not do the same thing with a PWC if you wanted to

Not sure how your insurance works, but they let me set the amount I want my PWC insured. I just pick what it is worth plus the aftermarket parts. I can supply the receipts if it ever comes down to a claim. I lower the insured amount as they get older.

Mine are insured for replacement value.
Premium is almost the same, but if something happens you get a new ski.

I am more concerned about refusing to pay liability claims if I am involved in an accident because of go fast parts.

I called several name brand companys just to check on pricing differences. Three of them said my Doos were "too fast" high perofrmance models and they wouldnt insure them. I even tried AARP , who sent me a flyer about boats, PWCs and RVs-- Nope--

All we have are stock GTX-SC 185hp

Most have disclaimers about adding high performance parts... especially if you are letting another user ride your craft...

Good point. Check around and ask different companies; I think the issue is whether you are using it for recreational purposes vs. racing; I know a guy on another forum who took his brand new BMW to the track for a little weekend fun; he ended up hitting a wall and they refused the claim simply because he was racing on a track.

Call my insurance company, Markel Marine; they have a couple of High Performance Programs that accept boats that are capable of 120 mph and beyond. They were also a heck of a lot less than Progressive when I bought my policy for the RXT's, in fact they were half the cost. Here's a link:

My policy will deny the claim if my ski is modded.
