    2010 Water levels

Soooooo. What's the water level situation looking like this year? I hear those damn yankees are having butt-loads of rain so I assume Morgan City will feel the effects before too long.

Way too early to tell... although the rivers (Miss. & Atch.) have been showing a slow rise, I don't expect the big stuff for a couple of weeks. With any luck we'll get our spring flood early and out of the way for June.

I have to jump in here as to not get people worried yet. On that chart they are showing the Morgan City area above flood stage. I live on the water here. I mean literally I walk 20 feet out my door and I step into my boat. The water level is low right now. If you are not here to see this yes I could understand that you would be concerned. I am not saying anything about in June but as of today we are close to our lowest levels of the year so far. While yes the water has come up in the last week, I doubt even an inch, these guages are not telling you everything. If there is one to follow, look at the Lake Palourde near Morgan City reading. If it gets to 4.5 then start asking about the water levels. I have every bit of 1.5 feet of rise at my house before the water will be a concern for MB.

Thanks for posting that, GL and just to back up what you're saying, I think the MC guage has been below flood stage only for about a total of 2-3 weeks so far this year... and we've been riding the whole time.

Also note the stages for last year's MB:

As you can see, we started the week at over 3 feet above flood stage. The rest of the week was missing (MSG), but I think it was near 6.0 -6.5 on the 10th. I don't know about everyone else but that was about as much riding in one weekend that I did all year. You just have to know where to go.

This shouldn't even be a topic right now, but I do understand the concern for folks coming from out of town. We'll really be able to ascertain the effects of this years flood around June 1.

OH! Almost forgot... Next time I'm out I'll see if God has put out any indicators: For some reason (instinct?) wasp always manage to build their nest before the flood comes, but always higher than the water will get. How do they do this.

Dude, no harm done... it's really a logical question for someone travelling down to SOLA. And unless every ramp were to be underwater (never heard of that happening) we'll have plenty of places to ride. We just don't want anyone misinterpreting a local NWZ as being "all encompassing"; we've got tons of water down here...

My apologies, if our replies look like we slammed the door in your face - that wasn't our intent. It's a fair question to ask (water levels/NWZs) and we'll respond accordingly as the information becomes available. But we really won't have a pulse on the true sitch until about the 1st of June.

Of course, if I see where this springs wasps nests are being built 20' over the current level, uhm... New Orleans is in trouble!

BTW, just imagine what life down here was like before the levee system was put in place... Yuck.

Yea, water level to a certain point will make/break a 1000 miles one way trip

Can you pull information from the 2007 MB?
