ATTENTION CAMERA GUYS !!!!!!!!! need help

Ok, looking at buying a new camera. I have read reviews and talked to a few people and the Nikon D90 seems to be a great camera. Any feedback would be great.

No. Buy a used D300, or D300s. It weather sealed, focuses faster, and is much more rugged than the D90.
I use the D300, and so did Mark, until he sold it to stay with the D700.

Look on E-bay, B&H Photo, or Adorama for deals on these camera's.

Mark should be along to chime in sometime soon.

Good post sheep man! Wondering the same to buy my mother a new set up! Mom takes pics all the time to paint and sell. Her camera sucks. Few samples of her work. Most of the size is 48x60 oil on canvas. Lee

My grandfather took pictures with his Nikons' until he was 91 years old. He was the one that got me started when I was 10. He just loved photography. But, he never got into the digital age, preferring film.

I'm leaning towards going back to film for some things. You can't beat the resolution once it's developed and scanned.

It can be an incredibly fun/challenging/expensive, and at times, frustrating hobby. Kinda like Golf, or fishing

It all depends on what your shooting. Canon are geared more towards the consumer, and Nikon is geared towards the professional. Canon is more for landscapes and still life, Nikon for sports.

The 50D is a nice camera, but will not focus nearly as fast as the Nikon(Nikon has 51 auto-focus points Vs. 9 for the Canon. Also, the 50D still meters in black and white, while the Nikon has a 1005 sensor color matrix exposure meter).

If it rains, or gets splashed, it's dead.
Also, you will need to decide if Canon's consumer grade glass(lenses) will get the job done for you.
If you want/need video, don't get it in a Digital SLR-you will be very disappointed in the quality. The lenses will not auto-focus in video mode, and any movement in the camera will result in the "rolling shutter-jello effect".

Don't get caught up in the "mega-pixel" war. I've made 20X30 prints that are razor sharp, with 6-mega pixels.

There are a few very well known pro's that have been with Canon for years, that are now switching to Nikon due to quality control issues, and the fact that Nikon just makes a better camera.
