    Cracked cylinder

I have 4 GP1200 skies one of them i just purchase with a bad cylinderthat i have had welded (it was cracked on outsde) is was a race ski with many mods. So i was told i know that it has bigger pistons(3.550) with alot of porting done to it boysen reeds with reed stuffers. I'm not sure what other mods have been done i know the guy i bought it from said it used to be raced(stiil has race numbers and stickers on it0. My question is i know it has 32cc riva head on it and i was told i should put a girdle kit on it and was trying to find someone who might have a used one with the head i need. I'm new to forum and i was wondering if anyone could help me also were i can find out information on how to see what mods have been done to this ski.
    Thanks

    1. Carbs--- stock are 44mm
    2. Reeds---only can tell if you take off the manifold/carbs
    3. Exhaust --- likely an OEM pipe and or factory tripple pipes...
    4. Prop--- look up into the intake section and see if it's dull or shiny..
    5. Intake grate-- Usuall will have aftermarket name ...does it have all 4 bars?
    6. Ride plate....again...name on it usually
    7. Head---very easy to look and see if stock head...check compression...stock is 125ish
    8. CDI---have to take apart Ebox
    9. Intake Manifold---look for a name on it.
    10. piston size...just measure bore...

Take pics...we can point out most of the mods quickly...

If you are looking for a girdled kit cause someone told you don't bother. Run the head the way it is. If you need bolts get them from the hardware store. What size are those domes? 32cc but what MM? They are stamped on the other side of where the 32 is stamped. If you are looking for a lower compression head that will work better for your application I could work out a trade. I am just thinking the setup you have prob runs race gas. Let me know.

    Girdle

Now thats a nice looking set up! I was looking for the girdle kit because i was told that i would be running over 200 PSI of compression. I'm not sure about skies but i know in cars when a cylinder breaks the way mine did it was probally caused because the cylinder was only bolted from below and not sandwhiched between. But it seems like you know what you are doing i want to keep compression but am affraid of doing same thing again. I cant wait to run ski old owner said he had it up to 75 before it broke.

I checked to other side and it said 84MM. What does that mean and what knd of compression do you think it running?

The cyl is shot yeah it looks like the compression was up and the head bolts pulled through causing it to crack. Ada makes a really good girdled kit but it will run you close to 500.00. That is for a whole new head. The domes say 84mm that means they are not big bore anything at standard bore. I would just use new cyls and get yourself a new head. Better off to be safe than sorry.

I would not run 200psi w/out a girdle kit personally.....that's putting it on the edge IMO...and almost 75% more compression then stock. I ran 195 PSI with a girdled kit.. The jugs look to be ported by someone...and ya may ask him...although 75mph is a Stretch....I doubt that it GPS's that fast...maybe dremo. With it at stock bore or close to it at 84mm...along with stock carbs...70 would be a goal w/ ported cylinders.
