1999 gsx not starting in the water

Hello, I have a 99 GSX it will start no problem on the trailer but in water it is hard starting? Just wondering if anyboby would have any ideas? Would a faulty water valve contribute to this??

Is this a GSX with a 787RFI engine or a GSX Limited with the 951 engine?

I have done a compression check and both cyclinder have high compression... It is also a 787 RFI motor in it.... One of things I can see is that the water valve seems to be leaking.. looks like it has been fixed in the past.. not sure if this would have anything to do with the problem..

You could just have a weak battery. Measure the battery voltage before starting. Or better yet, take it to a place and have it tested before wasting time chasing a problem that may not exist.

always start with your basics. They are usually the cheapest and easiest things to fix.

I had this happen on a 95 GTX right after I replaced the engine. The carburetor was sucking air through a gasket, which wasn't an issue when not under a load, but when in water, the fuel/air ratio was too lean to keep it running under load. Not sure if any of this applies to you, just giving you my experiences.

Thanks for the ideas... I have replaced the battery last season with an interstate.. and also a new stater (it was starting to go) there is not any lack of power with the battery or starter, it cranks over fine. on the trailer it will start no problem right away.. but when in the water it takes long to get it going. It will eventually start just seems like you really have to play with the throttle to get it going..Just not too sure why it only happens when it is in the water??

Can we get an accurate symptom please? Does the engine turn over at the same rate of speed IN the water, but it won't start? If so, this is fuel starvation. If not, get the battery checked, and then the ground wire.
