    98 1100 STX orange key

Is this a special key just for this Jet Ski? I can turn the switch on with my fingers, do I need to use the key? Thanks in advance.

If you can turn the switch without the key, then you don't need the key. It's just a security feature, and won't affect performance.

I guess the switch wears out... I can turn the switch by hand on my '98 1100STX.

If you need a replacement key, you can order it, but there are 6 different ones. You must know the number (I would imagine the number is on the switch somewhere).

I just wired up a keyed battery disconnect inside the top part of the hull where the battery is. This also saves your battery from being drained when setting for extended periods of time. (search Harbor freight.com for keyed battery disconnect)

There are actually 20 different key numbers. The number is stamped on the side of the orange ignition switch, inside the hull.

But it your switch turns by hand, there's no need to get a key. If you want the security of the keyed ignition, you'll have to replace the switch and key.

    You're right, I stand corrected.

The STX is a sit-down ski, so you probably SIT corrected!
