One day I was riding and...

It was a beautiful sunday afternoon, sunny and warm cruising on my 1995 750 SLT.. Everything was going perfect. ( or so I thought).. Doing 50 MPH across the lake on glass. Nothing could be more fun!... (never knew about pro785's),

I pull up to lot of boats just east of strawberry island.. (aperfect hangout for boaters to anchor and chill. So there I am putzing thru boats checking things out ... All is well.. I cruise on out of there and start off towards more north of where I am at.. A couple mins later,, I start doing doughnuts and getting crazy with ths ski.. I'n having a blast. it's like 90 out, im sunburn, having a riot in shorts and nothing else except a life jacket.. maybe my wallet..

All of a sudden i hear k-chang!.ehhe eehhh eehh eeeh ehh Skis sputtering,,, then stops. I'm tripping..... I look around and the place where I was just at is like 400 yards away from me and I'm drifting in the opposite direction!

I frantically hit the start button numerous times trying to get it going.. NOTHING< BUT A CLICK. .................45 mins later............

I'm doing everything a GH member could think of and beyond!.lol ..I check everything, the seat is off and I'm bouncing in 3 footers .

Damm it.. can't find the problem... So there it is,, Temp is falling quickly, it's late august burning michign sun, winds picking up, I'm waving to people for help and they wave back at me!.WTF>>>>

Now I'm 800 yards and moving north east at 4 knots into the upper part of Lake saint clair.. No marinas,nothing...... I waved to 3 different boats to no avail..

3 hours later.. still miles from land,, the waves are now hitting me all the time, the sun is fricking burning me to death and I'm shivering from the wind and lower temps.. kinda like when ya get burned the first time and your temperature sensitive from it.

Finally I man and his wife show up. They ask :do you need help?" I said "yes, Iv'e been floting for hours.. Thanks,, they towed me 5 miles back to my house,, (PS...No, I didnt have a valve in place to turn off the water intake hose).lol

I get the thing home and Immediately start taking the engine apart..I will find the problem... Ah ha! I found it. the pto piston has started to melt down a little dip in the center, the center has shot-peened look to it and the maggie was fine.

Ha, I didnt find shnit!. That wasn't the Problem!

Well ,Here's your Problem! lol.........A rock got stuck in the Impellor and blew everything out..Nothing moves. it's stuck in there!.

That stator is blew out bad!

First pic below is the impeller of this the SECOND time I had to replace everything back there.

Second pic is what I believe happened--the instant the rock lodged between the impeller and stator, it unscrewed it from the stub shaft then instantly tried to screw itself back on as I was WOT (in too shallow of water).

BTW, the first time I just should've checked the lube inside the tail cone.

Haha great story and the use of 35 smiles to help paint a picture lol

I hope nothing like that ever happens to me. Should we have oars in side the engine compartment somewhere? Maybe they make a collapsible oar that you can extend once out the engine compartment?

Sorry to hear about your luck but atleast its not a MAJOR engine problem!

Wow, that driveshaft took a beating.. never seen that before.

I guess when they say 2 foot of water, they mean it!

Yeah, a paddle would be handy. but not in that situation. Maybe to wave a flag with it.. or hold onto a flare real high up in the air. They would see a flare at the water line anyways... Kinda useless if far out. Maybe beating down sharks as you float.

Get a long collasable paddle if you do. 5 foot min. too hard to paddle with a short paddle, been there tried that. esspecially on a long wide ski.
