    785 coils in a 780 box

I have searched but have had no luck finding someone who has put 785 coils in a 780 box. These things are huge and I could use some pointers on getting them mounted so they are not flopping around in my box.

Lay them in there and let them flop around.

A small slab of stiff foam rubber should help keep them in place. Just need some creative trimming to fit

I didnt think of rubber. The creative trimming should not be a problem after the plate I had to make to mount the 785 cdi. Thanks

I dont think the 785 coils will increase performance much without the 785 cdi. This is my first project so my knowledge is limited to what I have read on GH. Someone who knows more should jump in soon to better answer your question.

Couple more questions about the 785 coils. What are the metal posts comming from the front and back of the coil? Are they some type of cooling fins? They have a 1/4 inch hole, like they are made to be mounted to something. Also how much heat do these coils generate, if any?

The coils alone will not add any performance boost. But they will make starting easier, and be beneficial if there's any raised compression done. Less tendancy to "blow out" the spark.

Not sure about those posts, but they don't generate much heat. I've had mine crammed into a 750 elec box for years with no issues.

As for mounting them, I break the "tangs" off flush that the old coils slip into. That allows more room for the PRO coils, and then use the metal retaining clamp to keep them in place.

You mean I get to break something! I had thought about cutting them off , looks like it will make things easier.
