Mirror Delete for Gauges- Pics and Info inside

I was trying to find a place for all my gauges and just kept coming back to the mirror delete setup.

After messing around with the original inserts for a while I decided that was a big waste of time, for me anyways.

So this is what I did:

    1) Took one of my original inserts down to TAPP plastics (they're on the web and in several cities in the US including mine ).

    2) I got a sheet of 1/2" BLACK plexi glass, or acrylic (same thing I think) and traced out the original mirror insert onto the plexi glass for them to cut out while I waited. They also cut out the holes for the gauges.

    3) I bought a pre made sheet of carbon fiber, from the same place.

    4) Picked up some stainless screws, nuts, and wing nuts. You can see in the pictures what I did with these. This is what attaches the plexi to the mirror holes. Drilled the holes in the plexi, test fit and then put the plexi plate upto the mirror hole so I could mark where I needed to drill the mounting holes for the plexi plates. I then drilled the holes and test fit the plexi plate. At this time I traced the circles for the gauge holes that will be later holed out of the mirror hole.

    5) I then took the sheet of carbon fiber, traced out my plexi pieces and cut them out with a dremel tool, slightly larger than the plexi plate.

    6) Sanded the plexi plates, mixed some resin, and applied to carbon sheet cutouts and plexi plates. Used a rubber roller to get roll the carbon sheet on the plexi plates, to get any bubbles out and help it stick real good. You shouldn't have to worry about bubbles but it will help adhesion.

    7) After dry, I trimmed up the carbon fiber sheet to match the plexi plate, then cut the holes in the carbon fiber to match the plexi.

While things were drying I took the air grinder and went to work on the mirror holes.

That's it. Pictured is the finished product, mounted with two bolts and wing nuts.

You could easily get away with 3/4" plexi OR use a little bit of a smaller bolt/screw for mounting. The plexi is brittle and WILL crack if you don't leave enough space between gauge mounting holes and mounting screws/bolts.... ask me how I know! I ended up re-inforcing with some glass on the back side of the double gauge block off.

Sure.. I figured it would end up there. I posted it here because more people frequent here than the how to.

Either way is fine with me.

I hope someone can use the idea or even make it better!

I'm glad I didn't see or think of that..... I might just have done it...

My buddy is mounting his in the X handle bar pad. I saw a pic and it doesn't look too bad, at all. It might even start a new trend!
