    1997 SLT 700 needs help.

I just purchased my first Ski, 97 slt700. It runs good and looks pretty good but it just had a fresh overhaul due to blown motor.

Issue is the ski will start a bit hard, always have to choke it.. runs and idles good. will only go about less than half throttle.. 20mph or so. then is unresponsive after that. when you back off a bit, I can hear the motor trying to spark up but just won't do it.

thinking maybe a rev limiter issue or computer is stuck in a troubel mode from the blown up motor from before.????

Good compression, good spark. when running, I can see the gas being sprayed at low and mid throtle but when I go past that the gas slows to a dribbel... ?????

Is there a way to reset the computer or check for what the issue it with out a shop computer?

I have been through many of your forums but there are so many and such vast welth of knowledge on here I dont know where to start.

I am hoping not to stick a whole lot into this unit in order to get it running again. thank you for your help.

I would also love a tip on where I can download or get a PDF file of a manual for this unit.

    Welcome to the Hulk

What exactly was done when the engine was 'overhauled'?

Were the carburetors taken apart, cleaned, and rebuilt?

Are the original gray Tempo fuel lines still in place?

Is there a red warning lamp or message on the display?

What maximum RPM does the engine reach?

What is the part number on the CDI module inside the electrical box?

Click the links below for some useful info

    Polaris Domestic (red) engine

The motor has all new pistons and rings put in and gone through.. Carbs were taken apart and cleaned and inspected.

there is no display on this unit? Only guage is the gas guage.

Not sure on the RPMs No guage?

I will try to get the number off the CDI

    thank you.

Looks like everything is pointing back to the CDI box. I checked the reset button and that was ok. Where is the best place to find a good used CDI box? my part number should be 406117 for OEM and 4010449 if it has the updated kit in it.

    Thank you.

your issue prob is the hole ignition system and will need the hole update kit which is stator cdi and for 2 cylinder motors the coil pack..

    not just the cdi

Those numbers are the original ignition system.

Some of the first generation domestic ignition parts still carried the PVL part number only, not the Polaris part number. Polaris did have their own part numbers for them, just not marked on the actual parts.

I am in need of finding a wire diagram for the inside of the CDI area. Any one have a clue where I can see one? I am trying to find the Rev limiter where it plugs in...

After running a timing light on the unit, light works just find until it is reved up to half throttle and then it shuts down to a dribble.. causing hardly any spark.. Thinking the Rev limiter might be activating.. Thus perhaps a sender unit bad in the oil tank or gas tank???? Starting small for the problem.. in hopes I dont have to spend $350 on a new update kit if I dont have to.. sigh.. I am trying to be optimistic..

The 1997 SL700/SLT700 does not have an RPM limiter. The overheat and low oil switches feed a buzzer only.

    Wiring diagram is attached.

On CDI that do have an RPM limiter, it is a Tan wire (or on some versions a Gray wire) that does NOT connect to the stator wiring.

There is a different Gray wire that connects the CDI to the stator. That wire has nothing to do with RPM limiting.

WOWZERS... you are fast and good.. LOL... dont let any one tell you different.

So, what you are saying is I am barking up the wrong tree??? sigh.. I was assuming that all the black wires in there are usualy kill circuts and if I unplug all the blacks and fire it up and start plugging them in might find the one that is making it loose spark?? But maybe I am way off..

    Sigh..

If I had a number for you I could give you a call..

    Mine is 218-280-0442
