I have used gas ported pistons on automotive turbo motors quite a few times. I have noticed that if the tune is off the ports will get filled with carbon.

Gas porting is a way of letting cylinder pressure push the top piston ring against the cylinder wall for improved piston ring seal.

The CP pistons I have sold in the past have Lateral gas porting. I have not seen a carbon problem yet

If you are Racing or running high boost numbers. Gas porting is good.

If you are just play riding I don't see any need for gas porting.

Been involved with turbo race engines for 20 years for an engine company in the UK, Most of the turbo engines we ran had gas ported pistons. this is a very common also now i think being used in high spec road cars.
