    R12X handlebar setup

I just checked out an 03 to buy and noticed there's some play/looseness in the bars. Is that normal or can it be adjusted?

Also, is it possible to run motocross bars on this ski? I'm planning to make it a wave jumper and have some pro taper bars with a finger throttle lying around from an old ski.

    thx

I also would like to know this question because I also have some Motocross bars.

All of them have the play and many have commented on it. It does not seem to matter. I have had the bar cover off of mine and I did not notice that the Aquatrax bars looked like the Renthalls on my dirtbikes. I know they have some index holes in them.

They all have play in the bars. Mine have been like that since new and I haven't had problems with them.

I have put a set of protapers on my r12x. Make sure you use ATV bars or you will not have enough room for the controls. You will have to make an adapter to bolt to the factory mounting location. I made one out of aluminum and used Honda 400EX post clamps to mount the new bars to.

Thanks for the info. Are ATV bars just wider than MX bars? I think my pro tapers are 31"

Yes the ATV bars are wider as ATV's generally have thumb throttles so they need more room for controls. the factory bars are 28 and I used 31" Pro Tapers. Riding with the wider bars makes a difference it is much more comforatable in my opinion. I switched with a friend who had the stock setup and I felt like my hands were so close together.

Keep in mind that if you have a factory cover putting the wider bars on will not work with the cover. You will have to cut a section out of the handle bar section of cover on each side and sew in a spacer piece in order to make it fit like OEM again.

For others, if you take the shroud off a stock R12x it does not look like Pro Tapers. It is ugly as sin, take a look for yourself.

Do you have any closer pictures of the handlebar mounting?
