    David versus Goliath

"Look at the size of that thing"

But this is really a warning. I had two big frights today. First time I had ever experienced that sinking feeling. Twice!

Must admit the Riva unit looks the part, but the RAD4 waterbomb didn't try to sink me! No matter what I did I could not keep the Riva unit from blowing off the head and filling the boat with water.

Simple fix will just be the machining off of two of the barbs so it leaves only a lip and a flat surface to seal up on with the hose clamp, just like the RAD4 unit. I don't know if any body else has had this problem yet. I must say that it was only happening once I was over 80mph.

just a though but maybe you are running too much pressure in your open loop which could cause problems, are you monitoring your engine temp?

Yep, certainly monitoring temps and thermo is working great. No probs with that. And I am running JD1 spec washer and don't have any probs keeping the RAD4 unit on, but I am getting the same feeling I had when I kept blowing hoses off my IC. I just don't think that multiple barbs is the way to go as far connecting the water hose.

I love the way these thermo's work.

Yeah i have been running mine for about 20 hours now with no problems.

Only thing i could think of would be pump pressure too high.

Are you using the supplied oetiker ear clamps on the Riva thermo?

I have my washer drilled out as JD1 open loop instructions. I have the water split after the IC. Maybe Riva has spec'd the washer at a different size when running the thermo.

But as I said, I have never had the WaterBomb come off.

No problem here yet with the RIVA set up. Been over 85mph with it with the RIVA restrictor washer in place. Also, mine is not install as per RIVA. I used part of my old hose and maybe a bad idea, but using a worm drive clamp on it. Not the best pictures here, but you get the idea.

Was the first time. But changed to hose clamp. I still think it's the multi barb thing I am having trouble with.
