Angry How do I change the *#&$#* starter?

It looks like my starter locked up and I need to get it out.

How do I get at it, and how hard is it to change?

    Thanks.

Its under the exhaust manifold. You may be able to get it out without taking the exhaust manifold off, it will be close. They are pretty easy to get out if you have access.

yes it actually comes pretty easy - and no you don't have to remove the manifold

take a look at the shop manual it shows where things are located - I think it is as simple as removing the 2 bolts holding it in place

I have the manual, but can't find its location... Front of the flywheel on the right of left side.

Will the gear come out with the starter? Is the gear the bendix?

The bendix is under the stator cover. Left side. It has to come out from the front.

Can the starter freeze up and lock up the motor?

    Possible, but unlikely.
