Thread: brain fart

today i pulled the pump....swapped the prop...greased the bearing and loaded the cone.
When I re-installed the pump...it was a little snug....tougher than usual to put on the shaft. It went finally and I reasembled the rest. Fired it up and....no.
2-300rpm and dead...second try...same thing...shorter though...third time...nothing. Sounded like it was in a bind.
Took everything off and inspected the pump. Everything looked good. Shaft looked good. I'd had the nose cone on this prop and I figured...I dunno. Anyway...after reassembly......I fired it up and she ran fine....sounded good too.
What did I do?...and did I fck up something?

Must have been a very rare type of brain fart that you had ...

Strange fart for sure. Sounds like you had the motor in a bind somehow. My guess would be that you somehow got the pump tightened down without the prop/shaft splines lined up. If this is the case it could damage the thrust bearing in the engine because of the pressure forcing the crank shaft forward. Pull your oil filter and inspect it for metal shavings. If it clean you are probably ok.

maybe you pushed the driveshaft forward just a bit? The nose cone has that rubber O ring that fits snug around the driveshaft and maybe if it didn't all line up perfect it pushed it forward? Just a "brain fart guess"
