motorcyle engine in a waverunner?????
ok i got your attention but serioussly why could a motorcyle engine not be used, and why can't it have a 3 speed tranny, 1 reverse and 2 foward? race boats have a 2 speed foward tranny.... other then possibly being to tall what else would restrict this. hell last time i checked 15,000rpm out of a bike motor seems alot better and stronger then 10grand out of a yamaha 4stroke sure the gas distance might blow. but a 2speed 15,000rpm motor might only need 100hp compared to 175 for the same numbers? bikes have been around a long time lots of time to work out the motor kinks i never heard of a gsx600 or an r6 buring out a motor, where as waverunners are burnt out a dime a dozen hell my gp800motor went after 51.3 hours. but hey if i knew i guess i wouldnt be posting this right..... so anybody????

why do u think the yamaha 4-strokes have a gear reduction box?
why do u think they call the FX motor the MR-1?

Bikes need to rev to the moon to make power. They have no torque down low where we need it. Also, a jet pump is worthless above 8000 rpm.

so if a pump is worthless after 8grand why is the yamaha 4stroke pushing 10,400rpm?
serious questions. and i actually thinking of putting my r6 motor in my gp hull oh well
1 more question i thought of why cant you have 2 pumps like 144mm pumps on a ski with 1 motor? it seems all the power lose is through these pumps

The yami engine is turniung 10K, but the prop is reduced to 7ish. That's why the reduction is there, and sapping 30hp.
2 pumps would be dangerous! imagine if one cought some air at speed! You'd go flying in all directions.

you guys are wrecking everything for me so much for my r6 with 2 pumps. what about 1 pump with 2 impellers in 1 housing exiting 1 nozzle? ok but what about gears how come it cant be a 2 speed automatic of something like that. or the transmission with the gear that works off syntrifical force like a honda scooter or some of these sport quads. my gf's 250cc quad is like this and does 45mph no shifting put it in foward and go no gear changes, and it has lots of torque you can throw it right into a wheelie or pull and 1989 kawisaki 650ts (with the rusty seized motor still in it) down the snow covered streets

I have thought of a CVT like in a sled. That is probably the only viable tranny because it shifts infinately, but the space issue is still there. I was thinking a crazy high pitch prop like a 19-36, powered by a small 2cyl 4 stroke. With and effective trans you wouldn't need much HP to swing a steep prop.

well if they can put gear reduction box's on the fx140 motor why cant they put the cvt tranny which i guess is what im talking about as well. they take up no room on the quads.... exactly like you said lower power. 100hp 4stroke motor with a cvt tranny. the right impeller you can go faster, just as quick and not burn 18 gallons of gas in 2 hours
