novi side draft carbs...moded reed blocks?

hey guys Im wondering what this modded reed block in this novi carb is for,the reed block has a channel cut in it from one side to the other on top,the anti siphon valve hole is pluged with a silver ball and a hole is drilled in the side of the reed block to the opening in the anti siphon,to make the fuel come through the top channel.
why is this done for side draft carbs? Im trying to use them on a non side draft yami motor where they stand straight up,what would happen if I try and use these reed blocks? I assume Im going to have to replace them?

I have some stock reed blocks around somewhere. what is the purpose of this mod for sidedraft carbs if they will work fine in top mounts as well?

I believe it is more of a preference of Tim at Novi not specifically for side drafts I have seen it on almost every set I have had except the older ones. I believe tt is supposed to flow more fuel, but Tim would be the guy to ask at Novi.

I remember talking to him months back about it when i was shopping for a used set. He siad they were done that way for side draft carbs, I have seen a few other sets made for 62t based yami motors that have carbs standing straight up and down as well as full spec carbs, none of them have this reed block mod,but i will try them as is if you think they will work ok,if not I know what I have to change

it just changes where the fuel goes into the block, in side draft set-up the hole is down instead of horizontal on a normal one. I have a brand new set of Novi's vintage 98 or 99, I am going to pull the cover off and check them. They came on a Riva manifold for the older GP1200, vertical mount style.

Tim did my carbs and highly recommended the other when switching from side draft to down draft. I'm not an expert but...he stated they must be changed /shrug

Bill I would get in touch with Tim. There was a long story about the changes it has on metering and all that....so I switched. Does it make a difference ...dunno...but I'm sure he's 400% more knowledgable then I am on stuff like that.

My Old school ones were set-up for down draft and I am planning on mounting side draft, I guess I should call Tim. These have never had fuel through them. I need to get some block off plates anyways as I plan on running remote fuel pumps.
