    Question Got a Few Question??

I am looking at a 99 yamaha GP 1200. It has 230hrs on it. The guy says there has been no motor work done to it. He wants 2,000 for it. Is that a good price for one? How many hrs could i expect to get out of before it needs a rebuild? What are some of the issues that these normally have? How fast do they run?

Here is a picture of it

Probably going to need an upper rebuild shortly if it was never done. Carbs should be checked also.Excellent ski should do 55 to 58 stock on gps. $2000.00 is fair price if in good condition.

Do yourself a favor and perform a compression test before buying. Seller can't hide from real numbers, it could be in great shape, but if not and you're still interested it'll provide a great bargaining chip for you.

Just finished reinstalling my engine on my 99 gp and put me back about 850 give or take. That was a COMPLETE top end rebuild and 3 carb rebuild kits. Not too bad at all.

Guess I'll be giving someone one hell of a deal with 70hr on my hull and only break-in time+couple hours on a brand new top end...

    I've recently picked up two of these - 97 gp1200 - for $1700 with a fresh top end ( no trailer )
    The other 99 for $500 ( engine issues ) a new ( used ) engine cost me $1600.
If something goes wrong that you'll be needing a new ( remand engine ) look to spend a min. of $1k for it from SBT, but that depends on what does go wrong of course, could be even more with SBT and I've heard stay away from them.

    Goodluck!
