Cannot get the pump shaft back into the hull

I just replaced my pump liner and impeller and now I can't get the driveshaft back in. Its about 2 inches short of being completely in. I have tried lubing it up with grease. I tried removing some of the grease with a dowel thinking there might be too much in there. I even tried freezing the driveshaft before putting it in. Nothing is working. I have been messing with it for two hours and I am out of ideas.

I also searched to forumn and haven't found anyone else having this problem.

Can you reach inside there, between the pump and the liner, and rotate the blades by hand? If so, see if the shaft is engaged or is it just hitting on the inner splines.

2" sounds like it's not engaging.

Its not engaging I am twisting it by handback and forth trying to get it seated.

Now I tried loosening the coupler thingy right behind the engine and its still not working.

    Very strange.
I've put my hand between the pump and the liner, and spun the prop, real slowly, feeling the splines, till it felt like it was in the notches, and then wiggled the pump up/down.

You sure you don't have spline damage on either piece??

I bet your turning the prop too much. Move the prop small amount right or left. Your trying to get it line up. Also if you grease it up a lot you can build pressure which will try to push the shaft out. Keep applying pressure to the back of the pump with one hand while turning the blades a bit with the other. It will go in.

Its called hydrolock, you cant compress water or grease.
Simply clean off the splines and tilt your trailer so the nose of your ski is up in the air.Now let it drain and slide the driveshaft in turning it slowly so the splines line up.

    That was easy lol.........

You were exactly right. There was too much grease in there. I started pulling out the grease using a wooden dowel and slowly the shaft was going in further so I really starting fishing out the grease and now its seated. Thats for the help guys. Standby for some new speeds this evening when I test it.
