    GPR ignition stator ?

Just wanted to know if anybody has seen a GPR or XTL stator go bad. If so, how did it run before you replaced it? Thanks!

No, its a stator or as yamaha calls it, a pick-up coil.

Spitting hairs over the symantics aside...

To answer your questions... YES, we have seen the stator's pickup coil get damaged by a past snout break. The flywheel magnets were rounded at the edges too.

This was Joes triple piper. It would run excellent for a half mile or so, then would fall over on it's face. After that it would fall over every few hundred yards.

If the pickup coil has any physical damage to it, I'd replace it irregardless of how it ohms out. The same goes for the stator. If there are damaged post, then just replace it. They are one unit from Yami, so if you have any doubts about it, then just replace it.

The same goes for the flywheel. If ANY of the pickups have rounded edges (I'm sure yours are new by now) then replace it.

OK, yamaha calls it a pick-up so we'll call it that. No physical damage, I looked it over real good. My crank broke at the # 1 rod journal, not the snout, so it never got hit. I lab scoped it last night and the pattern looked good, compared it to my xlt pattern and the output and pattern was the same. It generates an ac signal. But that can change with heat, and of course that was just in the garage.

So did it quit running, or just bog out? Did it feel like it hit the rev limiter early?

It ran fine for 10 minutes and then started missing like a sob! Let it cool off and all was fine again.
