    RXT prop questions

What is the stock pitch of an RXT factory prop?

Ski was running 8100+ rpms @ 65+ mph with the stock prop. Added a riva fresh air intake and free flow exhaust tube and had a old 14/18.5 Solas repitched to the recommended 14/17. Now @ 64.5 mph on the rev limiter with about 1/2" of throttle left to go. WTF? There was .006" impeller to wear ring clearance with the stock prop and have .013" clearance with the Solas prop. Any suggestions?

    Mark S,

I think the stock RXT impeller is around 12/18. I remember when my first mod was a Riva air intake. I had Impros re-pitch my stock impeller to a 12/18.5. I gained 2 mph but it was against the rev limiter... 12/19 might have been closer.

I could be wrong, but I thought the 14/17 recommendation was more for a stock RXT... it's amazing what gains are achieved from a simple Riva air intake.

I think I'd start by putting the stock impeller back in (no other changes) and getting a speed/RPM reading. That information, plus the information you gained from using the 14/17, should answer some questions for you.

My guess... you need a Solas 14/18

Do you think a 14/18.5 would be too tall? I need to lose at least 200 rpm.

i used to run exactly that in my stage 1 RXT... 14/18.5 with a skat race finish @ 8100

Shibby, what speeds were you at with that setup? 68-69? Also, how much rpm variation did you see in cold and hot weather?
    Thanks,
    Mark

i was actually running 69.5-70.1 mph with it... pump wedge, OPAS block offs, 4" air intake, 14/18.5 skat race finish, thru-hull exhaust

water temps in the 60s, air in the 70s... i dont get that drastic of a climate change here on the ocean front on Long Island so truthfully never see much of any heat fade or RPM loss ever.. water temps never break 75ish at the peak of summer.

that was probably the best setup i had going on the ski for bang per buck and reliability... from there i jsut kept dumping more money and getting less gain and tuning was so out of whack endlessly, and then i lost interest and now it's stripped back down, bone stock, and up for sale

    Mark S,

Actually, I originally posted 14/18.5 but edited the post.

Shibby and I had great success with that pitch when our skis were almost identical. I edited the post because I realized that my riding conditions here are almost always perfect... didn't want to give bad info.

By all means try 18.5, you can always take out 1-2 mm if the RPM is low.

Actually, I'm keeping the RXT... but I am working a deal for a used RXP... with possible "partner/sponsor" investment.
