Off topic - anyone know about a Maxum 1700 SR?

    http://austin.craigslist.org/boa/209842995.html

I am thinking of buying that boat. We want somthing that we can make a decent wake with, nothing crazy, just tired of chasing down bass boats trying to catch some air

Are Maxum's decent boats? Anything I should look out for in particular?

    Aaron

maxums are the same as bayliners. ( same company).

it is just a little fancier trim, ect. IMO still a cheap boat.

The same company also makes SeaRay and Baja.
The maxum is fine. We sold them at the dealership I used to work at.
They never had quality problems and were fine.

You will probably find the 3 liter to be a bit of a dog though.

no, the smae company DOES NOT make seay ray, and baja.

they do have the same parent company, ( brunswick) but they are made at different facillities. baja, and seareay are good boats. they are built well.

bayliner, is a cheap, entry level boat. a maxum, is the wxact same hull, and parts as a bayliner. they just have different stickers, ect.

i too have worked at marine serive shops, and cannot tell you how many floors, transoms ect we have replaced.

i have a good friend, who owns a marine service shop, and will no longer even work on any bayliners / maxums.

you get what you pay for, they have cheap upoholstry, carpet, they do not use treated wood in the floors, stringers, transom ect.

a good quality boat, will not only have better quality treated wood, but it will also be resin sealed.

it would be like comparing a chevette to a cadillac. both are GM right, so they must be the same? uh, no.
