Bad SC clutch... how can you tell?

My ski normally runs around 8,450 rpms. It is down to around 7,850 rpms. If the clutch is bad wouldn't the rpms go down to around 6,000 rpms or is 7,850 rpms an indication that the clutch is bad?

From what I've read on here, yes, you're rpm's would drop substantially....I'm in the same boat(no pun intended)...was only seeing around 74/7500 yesterday(GTX).....pretty sure my wear ring is toast though.

I don't see how a worn wear ring could effect the rpms?

    Phil:

Your RPM's can be reduced substantailly if oyu have a bad wear ring.

Mine dropped from 8,000 to 7,750 and the wear ring was toast.

Drop in rpms could be wear ring Phil....
Hey Jerry how are you liking that Stainless wear ring??
I think that is my best bet...I am down to 5 hrs per side on wear rings...After 5 hrs my holeshot sux and my speed drops to 68-70 mph....I flip it and my speed shoots back up with my rpms to 70 +....I think I need a new pump too..Mine seems to be flexing ALOT more these days...I wonder if it flexes more with age??

Mike, the wear ring is holding up great for me. I think I have 35+ hours on it so far.
