    Not recaching top speed.

Hi, I have 1996 and 1997 sl 700. I just got the 1997. I race my girlfriend and the 1996 sl 700 always beats me. I looked in the manual and the 1997 is suppoused to 5 more HP. Could it just be the weight difference? She weighs about 110lbs and I am about 200lbs. What else could be causeing this?

Next time I am out I am going to race her and swap skis to ski if that has any effect.

I took a compression test and they are both good.

    Please help.

check your impeller and stator blades. how much is she beating you buy..

but im thinking its because of the diffrence in weight..

    Do the skis have trim?

Is there any mods done to either ski?

What are the max RPM for BOTH skis?

Maybe one has some jet pump issues? Broken stator vanes, chipped up impeller blades, or just excessive wear?

Besides, it's always better to have her beat you. The view is much better from the back.....

I don't know what the rpms are becuase there is no tachometer. Is there any other way to see the rpms. I have a timing gun with the rpm gauge??

She is really happy. She loves to ride and to think at one point she was didn't like to go on them. Every time we race it will be about a 100 feet and she beats me by at least 15-25 feet. It's funny because I beat her out of the hole shot but then she fly's by me.

You have to get a tachometer to know exactly what RPM you're turning.

Is there a chance the impellers are different?

There's alot of stuff that can mean the difference between the 2 skis.

If you REALLY want to know why the 1 beats the other, you're going to have to do some digging.

Swap skis first then race and see if she wins again. if she wins, its the weight difference, if not, start checking things, blades prop, alignment, plug condition, prop hitting wear ring.bearings rubbing, carbs not opening all the way at wot, highs are not out enough. lean fuel condition. low fuel pressure.air leaks. pump leaks.cavatation. pump shoe leaking, low compression, impellor pitch, rideplate not sealed ,grate not sealed, just to name a few.....

Maybe she's just a better racer than you. How do you start the race? with a flag? voice? drag tree? lol running start?

sounds like the impellors are different everything else being the same besides the weight. you coul take the pump odd and check the numbers and condition of both pumps. see whats what. or swap um n try it again.
