    Reinstalling the Head

    I sent the head off my 98 Gp1200 in to have it milled. I finally got the head back from riva motorsports. Now I have a question about installing it. Should I attach the head cover to the head first and then bolt it to the cylinder? Or bolt the head to the cylinder and then attach the cover. Also should I use gasket adhesive on the head cover gasket. I was going to use copper gasket spray on the metal head gasket.
    Thanks
    Budman

    Install cover on the head then head on engine.
    No gasket adhesive needed.

    Thanks Mr. Scotsman ! I bought an assortment of gaskets off the classified section here. It had three head gaskets in it. One is the metal type similar to the factory one and the other two are paper type with a metal ring where the combustion chamber is. Which type do you think is best?
    Thanks,
    Budman

    The service manual says to put loctite 572 on the bolts for the head and head cover. I can't get that around here. Is there any other thread locker that will work?

    Use the metal one
    Ask at the auto part store or the Yamaha dealer for a substitute for the 572.

    Metal = yes

    On one of my Raiders, I used a paper generic gasket the first time and it blew after 1 season. I went back to stock Yamaha and it's been fine for years.
