Intake grate not flush with transom/ride plate on FX SHO

Just noticed on that the transom plate and ride plate sits deeper into the hull than the intake grate on my FX SHO. If I took a straight edge and laid it on the ride plate, the intake grate would prevent the straight edge from laying flat. My ski is completely stock. Is this normal?

I plan on installing the R&D Intake grate and pump seal kit soon. Does the R&D grate correct this ?
    Anyone else have this condition?

I don't have the stock intake grate anymore, (running the Riva grate) but it also hangs a little bit lower than everything else which is normal. I'm pretty sure the R&D grate hangs just a tiny bit low as well. Some people were machining their grates to mate up perfectly flat but I think that gave them overstuff issues.

Honestly, it's fine. It's actually not scrubbing any noticeable speed.

Thanks for the info. Wonder why Yamaha along with the other aftermarket grate manufacturers did not fix this? Assuming it did not cause overstuffing.

Jerry and Mark have more info on this I think. I just can't quite recall what the verdict was on the grates hanging low. Hopefully they will chime in here shortly.

The overstuff came from truing up the intake grate shoe to the transom plate.

As long as the grate hangs lower than the rideplate and not vice versa it's alright.

It's better to have the grate hanging below the transom plate than the opposite. I don't remember the fit off the stock grate, but both the Riva & R&D grates hang slightly below the transom plate.

Todd, I didn't change the height of the grate, only opened up the ID of the shoe.
