The Matrix has a stock grate on it for top speed in SMOOTH water would you leave it or go with the R&D 650 grate

With the motor your running Bob,I'd go with the 650,you need all the water you can get into the pump to keep from blowing that prop out.Mine could never keep the pump loaded in slight chop with the 3 bar.

nujets don't stay hooked very well in chop.thats why i have multiple pumps, skats for chop, nujets for the river.

    Bob!

    Told you this yesturday!

If your going to run the stock 6 vein pump on flat water - use the nujet prop but consider using 8 vein to keep the pump loaded better!

Intake grate is dependent on your HP and just how much water you want the pump to handle!

Think of how much the prop is spinning?

Higher HP will spin the prop faster and load the pump faster!

More thrust is being produced by better management of water being forced through the pump!

6 vein least efficent - 12 vein is 3x more efficent due to water is better directed by the walls of each vein keeping the water going in 1 direction instead of spinning around in the pump to and creating stronger directional rotation to better meet the rotation of the prop!
This eliminates over-cavitation which un-loads the pump and will cause the prop to spin!

Your thrust is now dependent on how much water is being shoved into the intake!

If you can't keep enough water loading the intake to feed the higher HP spinning prop!

Your going to end up going SLOWER than you could because you NEED MORE WATER to FEED your over spinning prop!

So you'll get the most speed by using something to help keep the intake loading as much water as possible into the pump to get here faster!

The stock intake grate DOES NOT LOAD or DIRECT WATER into the INTAKE it merely stops Large CRAP from getting into the intake and blocking the flow of water - PERIOD!

The down-side to a loader grate is it keeps the hull locked onto the water by the force of water being directed into the intake. This will scrub the absolute highest speed you can obtain because the force pushes your hull onto the water. (Solution modify loader grate to load just enough water to keep pump loaded and hold boat hull down the least!)

So if you want to get the fastest speed on your MSX your going to need to use some type of water directing loader!

This is my solution: (LOTS OF TRIAL on stock MSX)
(Will try on Matrix when I decide on what I'm doing to motor!)

(Note these tests were done before I developed the herniated neck was diagnosed with diabetes and when I weighed 215 Lbs! I'm now weighing 65 lbs less at 148 lbs so I'm going to re-test!)

Flat water-flat stock MSX: (to get the fastest speed!)

    un-modified R&D intake + 8 vein pump + 4 degree wedge + Nujet 602 prop + 04 MSX ride plate
(GPS with 5 gal of fuel) top speed was 64.7 mph fuel pressure loading injectors was 29 PSI prior to test (idiot gauge read 74 mph ) I haven't tried the modified R&D grate yet do to illness! So this may be 1-2 mph faster!

Rough water(+3 ft waves) - flat stock MSX

    modified R&D intake + 12 vein pump + 2 degree wedge + 17/26 swirl Scat prop + Wolf adjust-a-thrust + 04 MSX ride plate
(GPS with 5 gal of fuel) top speed in 3 ft wake spread at 15 ft btw waves in the bay here in Sarasota 61.4 mph (wasn't paying attention to idiot gauge but think I saw 68 mph

Here's some of my grates from modified R&D(left) and stock R&D(right)!
