    issues with rebuilt 900 zxi

so i just spent over 2 grand rebuilding my 96 900 zxi and it's having more problems. i did the engine break in thing for a whole tank of gas and then i tried running it full throttle. it went great for maybe an hour and then the driveshaft coupler let go in the middle of the lake. dealership said i sucked up a rock which caused it to automatically detach so they reattached it and i was on my way. took it out again today and it did exactly the same thing. there was no rock. why? i know they replaced the coupler when they rebuilt the motor and i don't know why it keeps letting go. also it will not rev all the way to 8k rpms ever. could this be due to the slightly nicked up impeller?

The impeller under a load will automatically tighten up...but when letting off the throttle suddenly when going fast will do the opposite. The coupler needs the shyt tightened out of it(per specs anyway). As for rpms, Kawa triples are not designed to rev more than just over 7100 rpm stock. 8000 is the rev limit that the cdi will shut down at.(those rpms can only be reached by over reving the engine while it's out of the water)...not a good idea.

    Got any photo?
Kinda unusual for the couple to come loose from the drive shaft...

So if I am able to get up to 7500K in the water does that mean I might be having CDI issues? I just bought a used one since my other was bad. This used one might be going bad too. Sometimes the dummy lights come on when you turn it on, and sometimes it doesn't I can rev well past 7100.

they figured out it had the impeller for a 750 in it so we replaced it with a stock one for a 900 and the problem is solved. it still will only go like 42mph tho i'm not sure why
