    Emap Garmin

I just got this today at a garage sale. it works perfect. 20.00 SOLD!

It's sweet. aquires in literally seconds. Shows maps, restaurants, exits, downloadable updates from the web, can purchase mem chips to 64 megs, and detail maps for different areas.

And of course, the GPS for speed. Ill be using it very soon on a ski!. Like I said, it aquires very fast, so am anticipating it being very accurate at speed. it said on the web, its good to 15 feet. at 60 MPh, your going 68ft/second.

So if thats true, and its good to 15 feet. that would mean it can update every 1/4 second. Thats pretty accurate for the little spec on the earth you are!.lol

What does everyone else use for thier GPS? I havent seen the latest n greatest in a few years.

Same here, etrex garmin. You should be able to get a handlebar clip for your one, check on the garmin site specs make sure it is waterproof. You need a good attachment, these things are waterproof but they don't float!

I use a Garmin Etrex Venture Cx, but dont have a mount setup right now.

I need to find a good way to make sure it stays attached to my ski, preferably without drilling.

Don't confuse maximum possible accuracy with update rate.

Maximum accuracy requires multiple satellite signal locks, and may require the unit to be stationary or moving slowly.

Position update rate is completely separate, and does not change with speed over the ground.

When you are riding, you will see the displayed speed lag behind your actual change of speed. At a steady PWC speed, the displayed speed will stabilize after a few readings, and that is your actual speed over the ground.

From time to time you will see the displayed speed reading jump up or down for a second or two, then return to 'normal'. This happens due to inaccurate position updates, which then calculate inaccurate speeds. Just ignore them when they happen.

I knew i said that wrong. lol man you dont miss anything keith.lol I know it doesnt update every second. my mistake.. i just meant that accuracy of 15 ft is pretty good tracking within 15 feet every time it updates.

This one isnt waterproof. I do have a garmin 12xl i bought at west marine a long time ago. i still have it and its tall and thinner than how wide the emap is. Do you think they update at the same rate? 1 is a 2000 and the 12xl is 10 years old.? both garmins. i dont think this emap has that dgps in it. i dont think either are waterproof. do they sell waterproof clear covers for these? or would that make condinsation in the bag and wreck it?

i like those etrax ones with the handlebar pad. thats what I would really like to use. I really want somethings that waterproof like my marine radio is.. but this is still very nice for used.

You can use a freezer grade baggie.
I like the ones with a double sealing strip.

You can use a water proof cell phone case, like the Dry-Pak (which I use).

There are also hard cases, but they tend to be specific to certain models and outside dimensions of the device.
