Has Anyone Successfully Crossed Over the FZR Oil Filter?

I am not trying to find a cheaper filter but a better filter.

I would love to fine a good number that I could cross over to an Amsoil,
Mobil 1, K&N basically any of the guys that make one with synthetic media and possibly a larger filter case if it would fit.

    Thanks

    David

Well after some research it looks like the KN303 crosses over. That's the same oil filter my Grizzly wears. I have also seen a K&N and Yamahas filter torn apart and the factory Yami looked much better internally to me. The drain-back valve, filer element everything. But to my knowledge and after cruising on BITOG for quite a while. It appears to me that the K&N has a synthetic oil filter medium.

Has Anyone Successfully Crossed Over the FZR Oil Filter?

    I will check it out!
I have an amsoil catalog somewhere that shows the thread and pitch size of the center hole and the o ring diameter. I would love to find one of theirs to run. I found a forum somewhere that showed this white off brand crossover. It was shorter and not built real well. The stock filter cut open didn't look bad. They didn't know what the filter media was and it was not supported real well. The crossed filter was plain paper and a cheap drain back valve. Between the two the stock was the way to go. Maybe this K&N will be a better swap.

I believe some members have crossed it to a WIX filter, not sure of the number. Maybe someone will share.

I remember seeing a few threads in the past about this. One response was from duke or wfo saying that there was a problem using the K&N303 filters.Something about the o-rings leaking.

Another i remember seeing was from carl at island racing talking about the metric threads on filter mount not matching the aftermarket filters.

Here is a filter from sierra that i-boats and a few other online parts places claim are a replacement for the yamaha 69J-13440-00-00 filter.

Here is what I found reading today.
    http://www.thehulltruth.com/shipyard...rs-w-pics.html

There is a cut away of the stock filter. It's not that impressive from a stand point of seeing other really good filters cut open. The top of the line filters seem to have a few things in common.

Really good synthetic filter media. (This may be synthetic)
Well built drain back valves. This one in the pic looks OK.
Well supported filter media which this one does not have.

    Maybe their design is better???

If I cant find an Amsoil or Mobil 1 I will stay OEM as well. It seems from memory the K&N SD filters had issues as well. They tried to collapse under pressure I think.

How about someone turn us out a billet adapter plate to use a remote oil filter that will hold a big FL1A Ford filter.
We could add an additional quart of oil.

i found a quicksilver filter that replaces the yamaha oem filter. i am using it at the moment. testing it out. no problems so far, and i am using it on a ski with the r2 reprogramming = higher rpms. since i do frequent oil changes, i will be changing the filters alot......
this filter was under 9 bucks............
if it works just as well as a oem filter, i might switch. but, i still have several oem filters to use this summer too.
i saw it and wanted to try it out.
the pics below show it compared to the oem filter.

ABSOLUTELY .... cut a yamaha in half and the "other" brand in half ...see for yourself. There is a reason the yamaha filter cost twice as much.
